Michelle Herman (MFAST ‘20) featured in exhibition “Interact + Integrate” at Kaplan Gallery in Rockville, MD

“Interact + Integrate” features four artists whose art practices are concerned with the interaction and/or integration of the audience in their work.

Michelle Herman’s new media works are often inspired by moments of communication that occur on the smallest of scales. Some examples include quorum sensing (the way in which bacteria are thought to communicate) and “contagious” gestures such as yawning and smiling. She is interested in how these processes seem to highlight our intrinsic need to connect with one other as well as how modern culture and technology has mediated these experiences.

“Interact + Integrate” is on view now through May 13, 2018 at the Kaplan Gallery in Rockville, MD. For more information, click here.

“Markmaking”: new drawings by Erin Barach (MFAST ’14) on view at AsanaRoots

From April 6 – 30, AsanaRoots will host “Markmaking”, a solo exhibition of drawings by Erin Barach. An opening reception will be held on Friday April 6 from 7:30 – 9:30 pm during which Barach will be working on a collaborative collage using imagery and found marks from the AsanaRoots space.

Barach’s process relies on the play between intentional and unintentional mark-making, layering, and the idea of capturing something fleeting.

AsanaRoots is located at 1707 North Charles Street, 2nd floor, in Baltimore.
