David Watne’s painting “The Darkness” is featured in Master of None, a new Netflix series by Alan Yang and Aziz Ansari. The painting is installed above the protagonist’s bed where a number of large scenes take place.
Watne is interested in the ways in which fine art and entertainment interact and inform the general public. He says about the experience, “I feel that the opportunity to have my work placed in a film context is a fascinating way for my art to interact within the public sphere. More and more, we are seeing fine art mediated through entertainment and delivered to us by way of smart phones and digital formats. The effect is the increase and volume of image trafficking.”
