Doris Ulmann Galleries at Barea College is presenting “Borders & Migration: Shifting Geographies,” a solo exhibition of works by MFAST mentor Renee van der Stelt. In recent years, millions of refugees have been migrating throughout the Middle East due to violence and contested territories. Global economic power struggles for oil along with the control of governments continue to cause lines on the land to shift. This exhibition presents a visual response to the complexity of borderlines and ongoing human migration from the Middle East.
Renee van der Stelt is currently a faculty member in the MFAST program and a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art at Washington College in Chestertown, MD. In her mixed media works she seeks formal and conceptual ways to assimilate drawing into the sculpted form.
The exhibition is on view through October 18, 2015 at Barea College in Barea, Kentucky. An artist talk will be held September 3 at 4:30 p.m.
