“Paperscapes,” new work by Elena Volkova (MFAST ’07) at School 33

New photographs by MFAST alumna (Class of 2007) Elena Volkova will be featured in “Paperscapes,” a solo exhibition opening this week at School 33 in Baltimore, Maryland.

In this body of work, a series of photographs of pieces of paper, she calls attention to the discrepancy between reality and artifice. Employing the ideas of trompe-l’oeil, she is interested in the threshold between the real and the false, and the moment at which the two become interchangeable. These photographs and drawings of ordinary, commonplace, and familiar objects, bring attention to the neutrality and potential of a piece of paper.

The exhibition opens Friday, September 5th from 6-9 pm at School 33 and will be on view through October 25.
